Why are there more men then women in the ICT work place? There has been a 70% growth of ICT jobs available since 1996. but only 16% of women account for ICT roles in the workplace and this is only showing 1% of total employed women population. Statistics show that in 2001 23.6 per cent of employees in the ICT industry were women. In 2003 /2004 the percentage of female employees had fallen to 16 per cent.

WOMENS ATTITUDES TO JOBS IN ICT
59 per cent agreed that ‘an ICT career means sitting in front of a computer all day'
51 per cent agreed that ‘an ICT career would be very boring'
68 per cent agreed that they didn’t know enough about the types of ICT jobs available'
51 per cent agreed ‘the subjects at school do not inspire you to continue further ICT study’
Lots of women find the thought of having a job in ICT boring and are unaware of the Jobs available in the ICT industry.
EDUCATION IN SCHOOLS FOR ICT
39 per cent found ICT education in school ok but not for them and chose not to continue it after school.
59 per cent of the women who studied ICT in school enjoyed it but were unaware about where to would lead them in the future.
